Google Maps Platform

Google Maps announced (on May 2, 2018) an important change including their new name: Google Maps Platform. The next generation of Google Maps business arrives with pay-as-you-go billing, free support, and Cloud requirement starting June 11, 2018. They’ll continue to offer a free tier — all developers will receive $200 of free monthly usage of their core products. In addition, this change will require you to have a valid API key, enable billing on Google Cloud Platform account and associate it with all of your Google Maps Platform projects.

The core APIs work together and help developers with the location-based apps.
The 18 APIs are now split into three simple categories:

  • Maps
  • Routes
  • Places

These updates work with the existing code.

Please take a few minutes to review this announcement to familiarize yourself with the upcoming changes.
